What to visit on Garda Lake

Garda Lake is a unique destination, rich in history, nature and charm. During your stay at Il Fienile di Manerba, we recommend exploring some of the area's most striking destinations.

A walk to the Rocca di Manerba, one of the symbols of Garda Lake, which can be reached on foot from our apartments, is a must. You can visit the archaeological museum to pry into the history of the place's ancestors and see the remains of the ancient medieval castle that stood on top of the promontory.

Another must-see, reachable by car in a short time, is Sirmione with its famous castle on the water and the Grotte di Catullo, an ancient Roman villa overlooking the Lake that will transport you back in time. A visit to Desenzano, Salò, Gargnano and Limone is also a must; you will love them!

Garda Lake is not only beaches and villages, but also hills and mountains that offer breathtaking views and a direct contact with nature. During your stay at Il Fienile di Manerba, we recommend exploring some must-see places.

The hills of Valtenesi have a panorama that is unique in northern Europe: olive groves and vineyards follow one another, framed by the blue sky and Lake. If you are a wine lover here you will find Groppello, Lugana, Chiaretto and many other varieties. There are numerous wineries that offer tastings, also in English and German, at the end of which you can buy their wines and oils to taste during your stay or to take home with you.

For the adventurous, Monte Baldo, accessible by cable car from Malcesine, is a paradise for hikers and mountain bikers.

Another must-see destination is Mount Pizzocolo, from which there is one of the best views of Lake Garda.

Water and nature not enough for you? Are you planning a vacation that doesn't involve a swimsuit in your suitcase? Do you want to travel during quieter, uncrowded periods?

Garda Lake lends itself to be visited year-round as it is surrounded by charming towns and villages, perfect for experiencing your stay at Il Fienile di Manerba while staying away from beaches and hiking trails.

We recommend a visit to the Vittoriale degli Italiani in Gardone Riviera, the last residence of poet Gabriele d'Annunzio: impossible to summarize in a few lines what you will visit, but you will certainly be impressed by the beauty of the place and the history that animates it. And while you're in the area, visit the André Heller Botanical Garden as well.

Then if you have already seen Limone, Gargnano, Salò, Desenzano and Sirmione, you can head to the other side of the Lake and enjoy the beauty of Peschiera del Garda and Lazise, as well as Bardolino and Malcesine.

If you love small towns, in 30 minutes by car you will be in the center of Brescia, a UNESCO heritage city, where you can explore the Roman Capitolium, the Castle, and wander the streets of the small historic center full of bars and stores.
